Parkinson's & the Power of Movement

Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological condition — but it is not the end of a story. It is often, unexpectedly, a beginning.

What is Parkinson's Disease?

Parkinson's Disease is a progressive disorder that affects the nervous system and the parts of the body controlled by the nerves. Symptoms often develop slowly, and may include tremors, rigidity, slowness of movement, and balance difficulties.

It affects approximately 10 million people worldwide, and around 60,000 Americans are diagnosed each year. While there is currently no cure, treatments and therapies can significantly improve quality of life.

The most powerful medicine? Community. Movement. And the choice to find joy anyway.

Why Exercise Matters

Research shows that regular physical activity is one of the most powerful tools for managing Parkinson's symptoms.

Boxing

High-intensity boxing programs like Rock Steady Boxing help improve balance, coordination, and confidence. It's what Kathleen chose — and it changed everything.

Dance & Rhythm

Rhythmic movement activates the brain in ways that improve gait and motor control. Dance, music, and movement therapy show remarkable neurological benefits.

Walking & Yoga

Gentle, consistent movement supports flexibility, reduces stiffness, and boosts dopamine — the very neurotransmitter that Parkinson's affects.

“Keep looking up — but be careful & don't trip!”

Kathleen's humor, heart, and hard-won wisdom fill every page of this little book. Let it remind you: joy is always within reach.
